We slept moderately in the
Villa Maydou Boutique Hotel in
Luang Prabang, Laos.
We have to get used to other beds, a different environment and the creaking floor.
Fortunately, we don't hear anything from the other rooms in the building we sleep in.
The breakfast is fine, not a buffet as we are used to from our
last trip; there are only 20 guests and breakfast is served.
After breakfast we indicate at the reception that the curtain in the bathroom is missing.
We inquire at the reception about the hotel boat we saw yesterday, but they don't know about
that.
We also ask about the possibilities to get to Vang Vieng, and we ask where there are markets.
With two loan bikes from the hotel we go to the Talat Phousy,
fifteen minutes by bike.
This is a large and busy market selling both food and other goods
When we cycle back to the center of Luang Prabang we stop at the morning market, where
mainly food from the other bank of the Mekhong is offered.
We park our bikes at the National Museum of Luang Prabang because we want to climb Phousy Hill. We pay 30000 Lak (3 €) and can go up. It is quite a climb, almost 300 steps, but the view is great. We go down another way and pick up our bikes.
We sit down at the Viewpoint
Restaurant, a beautiful view over the Mekhong and Nam Khan rivers, where we drink and eat.
Not cheap.
When we cycle back along the river we decide to sail a bit, we pay 150000 Lak (15 €) for an
hour of sailing.
It is three o'clock and we are the first customers of the boat owner.
The tour is nice and relaxing.
When we are back we exchange money and we get about 2000000 Lak for 200 Euro, which is a
whole pile of money, which is not easy to count at the counter, where it suddenly gets busy.
This doesn't feel right.
We cycle on and we get a downpour with heavy gusts of wind over us.
Because we cannot hide anywhere we get very wet.
Back at the hotel it turns out that we are indeed cheated when changing, for about 30 Euro.
In the evening we eat at Pha Khao Lao, a reasonable restaurant where dances are also performed.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment,
there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood,
the weather and many other factors.
